Thank you so much for signing up for our Legislative Newsletter! You will be updated with everything that I’m doing here at the General Assembly and in Cumberland County. I wanted to take this time to let you know that I am thankful and humbled to represent you in the North Carolina Senate! This week in Raleigh was very exciting as we started the first week of session on Wednesday. Make sure to read this week’s newsletter below to find out what happened this week.Honored to serve,

NC Senator Kirk deViere

MEDICAID EXPANSION IN NORTH CAROLINA

On Wednesday, Senator deViere had the opportunity to stand with his House & Senate colleagues to introduce a bill that would expand Medicaid in North Carolina. He was honored to Co-Sponsor SB-3 which aims to close the coverage gap and allows more than 500,000 North Carolinians and over 23,000 Veterans have access to affordable, quality healthcare.

Medicaid Expansion would help Cumberland County by:

Allowing 9,200 people gain access to healthcare coverage.
Creating 802 new jobs.
$1,902,000 in new county revenue.
Reduce the use of opioids by having access to treatment programs.

Senator deViere believes that this isn’t just smart policy for Cumberland County and North Carolina, it’s the right thing to do.

OFFICE VISIT FROM ERA-NC

On Wednesday, Senator deViere had the opportunity to stand with his House & Senate colleagues to introduce a bill that would expand Medicaid in North Carolina. He was honored to Co-Sponsor SB-3 which aims to close the coverage gap and allows more than 500,000 North Carolinians and over 23,000 Veterans have access to affordable, quality healthcare.

Our office welcomed many visitors this week and Senator deViere wants to thank members of the ERA NC Alliance who came by his Senate office this week. The Senator was happy to reaffirm his commitment to equality and justice for women and all North Carolinians! 37 states have already done it and Sen. deViere believes that North Carolina needs to become the 38th State in the union to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment to guarantee equal legal rights for all Americans regardless of gender. It also seeks to end the legal distinctions between men and women in terms of divorce, property, employment and other matters. Stay tuned for more news on this issue in the coming months.

CONSTITUENT OF THE WEEK

Senator deViere’s pick for this week’s “Constituent of the Week” is Tony Brown. Tony was recently awarded by the Fayetteville Cumberland County Ministerial Council as the recipient of the Moses Mathis Community Service Award at the 26th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast on January 21st. Tony is very active in the community and serves as the CEO and Founder of Southern CC, Inc. Senator deViere congratulates him and wishes him the very best.
